Carl E. Thoresen, Ph.D.

Carl has been a CPP Director since 1986, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board and a member of CPP’s Audit and Compensation Committees. He is Professor Emeritus of Education and, by courtesy, Psychology and Psychiatry/Behavioral Science at Stanford University. He is also a Senior Fellow at Santa Clara University in Spirituality and Health Institute. Elected to the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, Carl is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association of Psychological Sciences, and the Society of Behavioral Medicine and has been a Guggenheim Fellow and a Fellow at the Center for the Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Carl served as President of the Society of Counseling Psychology in the American Psychological Association as well as participated on several APA boards (e.g., Scientific Affairs and Publications Board). In addition he is a Fellow in several APA divisions, such Counseling Psychology, Health Psychology, Education, and Society for Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy. Recently he has been examining with others the role of spiritual factors in health and well-being, such as spiritual practices and spiritual self-efficacy. Carl has served on various expert panels, such as the National Institutes of Health Expert Panel on the role of Spirituality, Religion and Health. His latest book, with Thomas Plante, is entitled Spirituality, Science and Health (2007). Recently he authored a chapter on spirituality and health in the Oxford Handbook of Counseling Psychology (2012), the first such chapter in this series. He also wrote a chapter in Religion, Spirituality and Positive Psychology (2012) on his experiences in leading groups to help members learn and use spiritual skills to enhance health and well-being as well as to reduce distress and negativity.

Jeffrey Hayes, President and Chief Executive Officer

Jeffrey Hayes is President and Chief Executive Officer of CPP, Inc. and has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. Previously, Mr. Hayes served as Co-President, overseeing Finance and Accounting, Professional Consulting Services, Sales, Marketing, and Operations. Mr. Hayes has also served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Vice President of Operations at CPP. He joined CPP in 1987 and throughout his tenure has led corporate-wide strategic planning, provided corporate visioning, and overseen business operations. Among his many contributions are the 2007 acquisition of APP, the company’s Asia Pacific distributor; the launch of CPP’s Professional Consulting Services practice in 2005; the conceptual development and implementation of CPP’s Technology Division; the vision and transformation of CPP into a customer-focused organization with the implementation of its customer relationship management (CRM) initiative; and the acquisitions of Xicom, Inc. and the Strong Interest Inventory^® instrument.

Prior to joining CPP, Mr. Hayes held a number of management roles for international companies such as Marcelo Fiberglass Corporation in the Philippines and McBer and Company in Boston, Massachusetts. He received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Wayne F. Cascio, Ph.D.

Wayne has been a CPP Director since 1996, and currently serves as the Chair of CPP’s Compensation Committee. Wayne currently holds the Robert H. Reynolds Chair in Global Leadership and is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Colorado Denver. He has served as president of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (1992-1993), Chair of the SHRM Foundation (2007), the HR Division of the Academy of Management (1984), and as a member of the Academy of Management’s Board of Governors (2003-2006). He is a senior editor of the Journal of World Business.

He has authored or edited 24 books on human resource management and is a two-time winner of the best-paper award from the Academy of Management Executive for his research on downsizing and responsible restructuring.

In 2010 Dr. Cascio received the Michael R. Losey Human Resources Research Award from the Society for Human Resource Management. Currently he serves as Chair of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group that is developing international standards for the Human Resources profession, and he represents the United States to the International Organization for Standards. His work is featured regularly in business media, including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, National Public Radio, and Harvard Business Review, among others.

Dr. Cascio earned his B.A. degree from Holy Cross College, his M.A. degree from Emory University, and his Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Rochester.

Cynthia Cleveland

CPP, Inc. Board Member Cynthia Cleveland is Founder & CEO of BroadThink, a global media, marketing and branding firm serving major entertainment and gaming industry clients. She has held this position since 2002, and from 2011 has concurrently served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Advisors for BroadLit®, Inc., a digital publishing company she founded, which holds a vast library of romance ebooks, mobile games and merchandise sold through online retailers. Prior to BroadThink and BroadLit, Cleveland was Universal Studios’ U.S. President of Licensing and Merchandising (1996-1998) and later Worldwide President of Consumer Products & Games (1998-2001). Prior to her tenure at Universal Studios, Cleveland was President and CEO of educational retail toy chain Imaginarium, which was acquired by Toys R Us. Additionally, Cleveland was President of Teleflora from 1988 until 1993; and has also held several other leadership positions, including Vice President of Marketing at Mattel Toys (1982-1988); and in brand management at Carnation Foods. In addition to Cleveland’s December 2013 CPP Board appointment, she currently serves on the boards of Young Presidents’ Organization (recently elected Chair of the Women’s Network of 1,000 female CEOs), Real Leaders Magazine, the Childrens Nature Institute, and the Indiana Board of Visitors. Her prior board appointments include Imaginarium Toys, Enkeboll Designs, and the Assistance League of Southern California.

Cleveland holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California; and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Indiana University. In addition to her extensive experience Ms. Cleveland is committed to helping female executives prepare for and attain board appointments, and runs a Lean In Circle for young women supporting our next generation of female leaders.

Calvin W. Finch, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer

Calvin W. Finch joined CPP in 2002 and brings more than 25 years of financial management and business experience to his current role. He oversees the Finance & Accounting and Legal & Licensing Divisions and has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2010. Cal was instrumental in the 2010 acquisition of Hemisphere Consulting, the company’s distributor in Singapore, the 2007 acquisition of APP, the company's Asia Pacific distributor, and the acquisition of the Strong Interest Inventory® instrument in 2004. Cal is a member of the board of directors of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest professional association devoted to human resource management. Prior to joining CPP, Cal was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Coppola Group of Companies and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Zoetrope Group, Francis Coppola's entertainment companies; Vice President and Corporate Controller of New World Entertainment, Ltd.; and a Manager in the Audit and Business Advisory Services division of Arthur Andersen & Co. He is a Certified Public Accountant and received his B.S. in accounting from the University of Utah.

Dalton Martin, M.S.

Dalton has been a CPP Director since 1996 and currently serves on CPP’s Audit Committee. He served as a Research Engineer at Stanford Research Institute; co-founded and served as an officer of Vidar Corporation for 20 years (Vidar was eventually sold to Continental Telephone and then to TRW); was an Executive V.P. for Telenova, Inc.; was co-founder and corporate secretary of JetTrain; and was a V.P. of Finance and CFO for Monterey Telecommunications. Dalton has previously served on the Boards of Vidar Corporation; Develco Corp.; Telenova, Inc.; JetTrain Corporation and Dianatel Corporation.

Christina Maslach, Ph.D.

Christina has been a CPP Director since 1988. She is a Professor of Psychology, Emerita at the University of California, Berkeley, where she served twice as the Chair of the Berkeley Faculty, in addition to serving as the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Instructional Technology. She is author of the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which was first published by CPP in 1981, and is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Truth About Burnout and Burnout: Six Strategies for Improving Your Relationship with Work. Currently, she is the founding Co-Editor in Chief of the new e-journal, Burnout Research . Christina received national recognition as Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation and The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. She has been president of the Western Psychological Association, is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has received the Distinguished Teaching Award, Faculty Service Award, and the Berkeley Citation (the University’s highest honor) from U.C. Berkeley.

Marion McGovern, M.B.A.

Marion has been a CPP Director since 1998 and is a member of CPP’s Audit Committee. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at USF. She is a Director of M Squared Consulting Inc., a specialty consulting firm with offices throughout California, which she founded in 1988 and grew to over $50 million in sales. M Squared Consulting Inc. has been featured in Fast Company, Fortune, and the Staffing Industry Report. She is the author of A New Brand of Expertise (2002) and has appeared as an expert on workplace trends on The Bloomberg Report, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, KRON TV and KCBS radio. McGovern is currently a Director and member of the Executive Committee of ReSurge International, a humanitarian organization that sends reconstructive surgeons to help the poor worldwide. She is a former Director of the American Liver Foundation, and the Hamilton Family Center, a shelter for homeless families in San Francisco.
