Patient Care Advanced with Myers-Briggs® HCAHPS Report

New Relationship with careLearning Can Improve Healthcare Patient Satisfaction Scores

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., November 5, 2013 — CPP, Inc. (CPP.com), an industry leader in research, training, and organizational development tools including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment, and the careLearning division of Chesapeake Healthcare Forum, Inc., an online training and education company for healthcare organizations, have entered into a relationship to provide the Myers-Briggs® HCAHPS Report to careLearning’s network of 200,000 nurses and physicians.

The Myers-Briggs HCAHPS Report combines personality type assessment findings of healthcare professionals who take the MBTI®Complete assessment with patient satisfaction data specific to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, which are mandated with the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Each report provides personalized feedback and recommendations for careLearning professionals to have better self-awareness and understanding about their individual care styles, based on type preferences derived from the MBTI®Complete assessment.

With the release of the Myers-Briggs HCAHPS Report, careLearning’s entire team of health care professionals will now have access to important details about their personality preferences and how these preferences translate when caring for patients. Those who receive the assessment and report can glean insight from 11 pages of customized data and immediately apply what they’ve learned to make deliberate changes that improve interactions with patients in the areas of:

  • Making Patients Feel Comfortable – plus recommended actions to show patients courtesy and respect
  • Helping Patients Understand the Details of Their Care – plus actions to help patients be better informed
  • Assuring Patients Their Opinions About Their Care Matter – plus recommendations to show patients care providers are listening to them
  • Being Responsive to Patients’ Needs – plus actions to create a supportive environment and help patients manage pain and the side effects of treatment
  • Educating Patients About Their Condition and Making Healthy Choices – plus guidance to explain medical issues appropriately and facilitate patients’ post-hospital transition
  • Tactical Recommendations and Managing Care Giver Stress and Its Impact on Patients

CPP developed the Myers-Briggs HCAHPS Report with the nation’s hospitals’ and other health care HCAHPS scores in mind. By addressing how professional nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff members interact with patients, careLearning member hospitals can begin making changes to improve patient satisfaction and the overall HCAHPS results of the hospitals they represent. Today’s announcement is another example of how Myers-Briggs understanding about personality drives results for a wide range of business problems.

“Every hospital administrator is committed to patient satisfaction -- but whether or not these goals are always met can be another issue,” said Peggy Engelkemier, Director of Workforce Development Solutions, careLearning. “With PPACA come opportunities and challenges for hospitals to know how well they’re satisfying patients and specific ways to improve satisfaction if needed. The Myers-Briggs HCAHPS Report is an excellent resource for understanding hospital professionals’ personality preferences so that they can leverage them successfully when caring for patients.”

“Today’s announcement underscores CPP’s ability to apply its insights about personality type preferences to the needs of businesses including the health care industry,” said Dennis Diligent, Vice President, Sales and Professional Services, CPP. “We’re delighted to offer the Myers-Briggs HCAHPS report to the medical industry and more immediately to careLearning which will soon be able to provide crucial information to improve how patients experience the care they receive.”
